  • Gaining understanding of Gangs and Gang culture

This self proclaimed gangster/rapper is speaking about a lot of the very things I am thinking about. It's incorrect to just paint all gangs and gang members as being just evil, bad people. Black gangs were begun for protection not sex and drugs and violence. Eventually, that became the public image of gangster culture and now its just violence and dumb offensive acts that will continually escalate.

We will need to find common ground and combine efforts with all Black people if we expect to truly change our direction. That includes gangs and gang members. But there are too many unjustified theories and ideas about gangs that prevent collective actions. We must look outside of the white society for a value system that holds a positive value for Black life not a negative one.

    Theories? Ideas? Opinions?

Alot of gangs don't have any kind of pro-black ideology they only operate off a motivation for profit. Some have a feed the family mentality which we can all benefit as black folk but it's unfortunately poisoned by a US vs them mentality which doesn't encourage any kind of cooperative effort to succeed as a whole.

Thanks for the response. Do you see any hope for change and collaboration? Or is it not worth the effort for current gang members?
